選修六 Module 2 Fantasy Literature --The Cat That Vanished 2019-2020年外研版高中英語選修六 Module 2 Fantasy Literature -The Cat That Vanished教案 Teaching Goals: 1. Get the students to know about fantasy literature and its characteristics, as well as famous writer and works in this field. 2. Help students to master and learn to use words and phrases related to this topic. 3. Organize various class-activities on the basis of solving the difficulty of vocabulary and develop students’ ability of using a language. Teaching procedures: Step 1: lead-in 1. Show the students a video consisting of parts of several films, asking them to watch carefully and e up with the names of the films and further information. The films are: Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, Eragon, Harry Porter, and The golden pass. 2. Question: what do these films have in mon? According to this question, the teacher leads the students to e up with the definition of Fantasy Literature—Stories that take place in a magical and impossible world. 3. Introduce British writer Phillip Pullman and his famous writing—His Dark Material. The reading passage “The Cat That Vanished” es from this work. Step 2: while-reading 1. Watch a flash based on the reading passage and try to get the main idea of the story and its main characters. 2. Divide the whole passage into four parts and locate them after careful reading. ① The cat es up to Will. Para.1---Para.2 ② The cat behaves in a strange way and vanishes. Para. 3—Para. 7 ③ Will climbs through the hole. Para. 8—Para. 12 ④ Will decides not to return to his world. Para. 13--Para. 15 3. divide the class into four groups and each group is responsible for one part, finding out the detailed description of each part and trying to describe the pictures related to the story. Meanwhile, the teacher paraphrases several difficult words. Part 1 The cat es up to Will. Stupefied with exhaustion--- pad out of a garden--- hold out his hand ---Rub her head against his knuckles---a longing to turn for home---tears scalded his eyes Part 2 The cat behaves in a strange way and vanishes. reach out a paw to pat sth. in the air--- leap backwards---back arched and fur on end, tail held out stiffly ---stepped forward and vanished---Will blinked, and stood still. Part 3 Will climbs through the hole. keep an eye on the spot--- a patch square in shape---something profoundly alien---scramble through himself ---He found himself standing under a row of trees. Part 4 Will decides not to return to his world. a broad boulevard with a line of cafes and small shops ---be laden with the scent of flowers ---houses with gardens & a parkland ---Whatever this new world was, it had to be better than what he had just left. Step 3: post-reading 1. Summarize the passage using as few words as possible. Step 4: homework 1.
